My Remote! Overview

My Remote is an award winning board game I made with Ketul Majmudar and Ridima Ramesh during the PIGDA 2018 board game jam. Players play as siblings fighting over the TV remote before mom gets home from work. Take a look at a round of play below!

Story Spine Design Framework

During Development we utilized the story spine. First we brainstormed fantasies associated with the theme of “freedom”. After settling on the feeling of freedom you feel when choosing between TV channels, the image of children fighting over the remote control came to mind and we pursued that story. I then looked for mechanics to support that feeling and settled on a combination of simultaneous dice rolling to get control of the remote, and speed reading to capture a slot with your TV show.

Favorite Game Award

Judging for the jam was done as a vote by each of the participants. The categories were “Best Use of Theme”, “Best Use of Materials”, and “Favorite Game”. My Remote! was awarded the Favorite game award!
